A Sacred Heart & District Active Retirement Association bowls competition was held in Butler Community Centre on Tuesday, September 3.
Sixteen teams from all over the south east took part and the competition was held in memory of the late Mrs Elizabeth (Peg) Tebay. Congratulations to the winners: 1st - St. Paul’s 'Magpies' and in second place - St Paul’s 'Wobbles'.
A Fantastic day was had by all and we would like to thank the following for their fantastic input in running this competition. Our co-ordinator Paddy O’Mahony, and Jim O'Sullivan from St. Paul’s, for all their help and hard work in putting this altogether and also setting up the hall the night before with John Tebay and staff of the centre. Thanks was also conveyed to John Vaughan who helped Paddy on the day with all the score keeping.
Gratitude was also expressed to St. Paul Active Retirement Association for supplying extra bowling mats and also to John Vaughan who transported the mats to and from the community centre. The centre manager, Anne Grogan and all her staff, were also commended for their help and support in all events organised locally.
"Without her help these events would not be so successful, making the centre available and for all their help with this event on the day," said one of the organisers.
"Thanks to Eleanor, Bridie, Kathleen, Caroline, Anne, Trisha, Glencora, Michael and John who catered for the teams at lunch time," she added.
"Thanks to Gerry Roche who took photos and videos of the event and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody sincerely who made the day so special."
Indoors bowls are played every Monday from 10am to 12pm, in Butler Community Centre and there is coaching for beginners who never played before. One of the attractions of indoor bowl is that it can be played by all ages including men, women, juniors and seniors. It is also a great way to make new friends. New members are always welcome. As Peg Tebay quoted: "It’s not all about the competition it’s having fun with friends". It's hoped the event will now become an annual fixture.
