The Portlaw Utd Youths have had a great run of results.

Portlaw GAA

Sunday week gone was a great day for Waterford hurling and massive well done to all involved and huge congrats to our own Darragh O’Connor who played at halftime in the Primary Game, the first of many times we’ll see Darragh in a blue and white jersey. Darragh did himself, his family and Portlaw GAA proud.

A huge well done to Theo and Cian who played U16 football, 1st round and had a brilliant win against Kildare, with Theo captaining the team.

Portlaw Camogie

Well done to all our U10 players for the first blitz of the year at home in Ballyduff Lower GAA. They played outstanding across three games with no subs. Thanks to Kilmacthomas, Stradbally, Comeragh Rangers and Kilrossanty Brickeys for attending and thanks to Hickson's Centra, Kilmeaden for supplying goodie bags to all the U10 teams. As always thanks to the parents, the support is greatly appreciated as we have a small squad. There will be another blitz next month.

Local Link

Delighted to confirm that the NTA have identified and approved a bus service linking Portlaw and Dungarvan. This follows extensive negotiations and justifying the demand for such a service. This has been a service I have been chasing for a number of years so delighted to finally confirm the route approval. The route will be: Carrickbeg - Portlaw - Kilmacthomas - Dungarvan with a frequency of a minimum of five times each way, daily, 7 days a week. Funding has been delayed due to the delay in forming the various committees in the Dáil so as soon as the funding is in place, the service will start.

Curraghmore House

Curraghmore House and Gardens will open for the season from Friday, May 2. There will be guided tours available at 11am and 2pm every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and bank holiday Mondays. The tearooms will open from 10am to 4pm and for more information go online to https://curraghmorehouse.ie/tour

Cuarraghmore House will be opening up for the summer season.

Portlaw United FC

We would again like to thank everyone who signed up for the club Supporters Development Syndicate to date. We held our latest draw and the lucky winners  were: 1st prize - €100 - Patricia Cullen; 2nd prize - €50 - Mary Coe; 3rd prize - €25 - Bernie Sexton. If anyone would like to join the syndicate to improve the club facilities contact any member of the committee or the club Facebook page directly. Portlaw United FC Youth League Result:  Johnville 1 - 6 Portlaw and team sponsor was Pat Kerley Windows & Doors. Our youths kept up their recent good run of results with a recent trip to St Martin's Park. We took the lead in the second minute when Jack Kennedy headed home a Sam Deevy corner. Johnville equalised soon after with a super strike from 25 yards that gave Adam no chance in the goal. We took the lead again on 20 mins when another Deevy corner was this time headed home by David Walsh. A Peter Power strike soon after had us 3-1 up at half time. Johnville came out strong in the 2nd half but we controlled the game well and kept their chances to a minimum. A great cross field pass by Cian Power found Conor Foley to get our 4th. Finley McHardy smashed home our 5th before Kevin Lyons scored our 6th and rounded off a great performance and result for the lads.

Under 8s Blitz

It was a busy busy weekend for our Under 8’s recently when Portlaw GAA, hosted an Under 8’s Hurling Blitz, where young hurlers from Ballyduff Lower GAA, Clonea Power Juvenile GAA, Butlerstown GAA, St. Molleran's GAA  and St. Mary’s Juvenile GAA represented their respective clubs, each team playing five (5) highly competitive, fun and enjoyable games. It was a fantastic morning of hurling, with over 70 kids taking part, making it a memorable couple of hours of sport, fun and smiles from everyone. A huge thank you to Portlaw GAA Club for hosting such an incredible event. Thanks to all the parents for making the journey, on a early Sunday morning. Your support on the sideline is greatly appreciated. Great work, kids - keep it up and most importantly, keep enjoying your time on the pitch.

U12 Camogie

Well done to our U12 Camogie girls who put in a brilliant performance in their first game of the year against Abbeyside. The smiles said it all; the girls played brilliant showing great skills throughout the game.
