Passage East 

Late John Donnelly 

The death took place after a short illness on July 7 of John Donnelly, Barrack Street, Passage East, ex Waterford Harbour Commissioners and the Dredger "Portlairge". Full report on his death etc next week. 

Masses in Crooke and Faithlegg Church

Masses this week are Thursday, July 18, Crooke 10.00am, Saturday 20, Faithlegg 6.30pm (Sunday Vigil), Sunday 21 Crooke 11.30am. 

Jack O'Donoghue Sports Star 

Jack O'Donoghue, Woodstown, was chosen as the WLRFM Granville Hotel Sports Star for May. In May Jack became the youngest player ever to make 200 appearances for Munster. Jack, now 30, plays in the back row and has captained Munster on several occasions. Congrats to Jack.

Passage Hurling 

The following are results of games played by Passage teams last week with very favourable results. The minors beat St Mary's in Passage and drew with Ferrybank/St Saviour's in Ferrybank, the Junior A team beat Clonea in Kill, the Junior C team beat Portlaw in Portlaw and Tramore in Passage, the under 13's had two wins over St Patrick's in Passage and Clan na Gael in Fenor; also the u15's beat Ballyduff Lower in Ballyduff. 

Lots of fixtures coming up next week also. 

The annual cycle fundraiser for the club held on Sunday, July 7, was a great success with 80 cyclists involved. The Hook or by Crooke Cycle left Passage at 9.30am on the Ferry and headed over the usual course down around South Wexford and back to Passage where food was served to the cyclists. Well done to John Tracey, the organiser, and his crew and of course to the ladies on catering duty and to the ferry company, cycling clubs that came also. The Cúl Camp started on Monday of this week with entries online only, no entries on the day. The Well Kids from last Friday went ahead instead of Wednesdays and will be on Fridays for the next few weeks.

Fionn Lynch 

Fionn Lynch, Knockroe, and Max Sweetman, Wexford, from Waterford Sailing Club were in Slovenia last week representing Ireland at the European Championships in the 420 class. Both who are juniors were competing against seniors from all over Europe and did very well. Ireland had three boats competing and Fionn and Max were first of the three to finish.

Dunmore East 

Late Ned Flynn

The death occurred on July 6 of Edward (Ned) Flynn, Ballinamintra, Dunmore East, Honorary President, Gaultier GAA Club. Ned was indeed a great Gaultier man in every respect, as a player on the winning Gaultier Junior County team of 1958, as a mentor, selector and adviser on many different projects in his time and doing lots of jobs connected with the club over many years. He had given so much to the community through sport and had a real passion for it right up to his death. 

His remains reposed in Tom Hennessy’s Funeral Home, Johnstown, on Wednesday, July 10.

His Funeral arrived to Our Lady’s Church, Carbally, on Thursday, July 11, for his Requiem Mass at 10am with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Predeceased by his parents Michael and Mary Bridget, brothers Mick, Richard and Maurice, sisters Alice and Bridget, Ned is survived by his wife Julia, sons Michael, Johnny and Edmond, daughters Deirdre and Judy, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, brother-in-law Tony, sister-in-law Pat (UK), nieces, nephews, extended family and his neighbours and very many friends. The Flynn family would like to sincerely thank all the staff in St. Mary’s Ward, Waterford Residential Care Centre, St. Patrick's, for the wonderful care given to Ned during his time with them. 

Late Jack Sweeney

Another death connected with the Gaultier Club was that of Jack Sweeney from Ballymacaw originally and living in Viewmount who was a member of the club's famous 1958 junior football County Championship winning panel also. The club sends its condolences to his family.

Late Phyllis Lannon (née Veale)

The death occurred on July 6 of Mrs Phyllis Lannon (nee Veale) Woodfield, Circular Road, Dunmore East formerly of New York and a native of Ballybrack, Co. Waterford, in the Oak Ward, University Hospital Waterford. Her remains reposed in Tom Hennessey's Funeral Home, Johnstown, Waterford, on Sunday, July 14, and her requiem Mass was on Monday, July 15, in All Saints Church, Newtown, Co. Waterford, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Predeceased by her husband Eddie, she is survived by her stepdaughter Traci and stepson Michael, and their spouses Michael and Michele, and predeceased by her brother Edward Joseph Veale. Survived by her brother Maurice Veale and her sisters Kathleen Veale (MMM), Carmel Hennessy, Maura Veale Martin, Cora Moore (Australia), brothers-in-law Richard and Ed, sister-in-law Sinead, and her nephews and nieces Bryan, Keith, Aoife, Emma, Orla, Michael, Barry, Siobhan and Finola, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, extended family and many friends and neighbours.

Mass Times in Killea Church this week 

Wednesday, July 17, 7.30pm, Friday, July 19, at 9.30am, Sunday, July 21, 9.30am. Mass in Carbally Church every Sunday at 11am. 

RNLI Gift Shop 

The RNLI Gift Shop in Dunmore is presently open seven days a week. The opening hours are Monday to Saturday 11am to 5pm and on Sunday from 12.30am to 5pm. Lots of gifts available to choose from.

Next Cruise Call 

The next cruisers to call at Dunmore will be the Seven Seas Voyager with 706 passengers on Tuesday, July 23, arriving at 7.30am and leaving at 9.30pm. Then on Friday, July 26, the Celebrity Silhouette with 2,852 passengers arriving at 8am and leaving at 4pm. The usual parking restrictions will be in place. All business people and residents please note.
