Birthday Corner

A happy ninth birthday is wished to Aoife Murphy, Chaplegate, Kilmacow, who celebrates on Thursday, June 4. Birthday wishes come from her parents Samantha and Thomas, brother Dylan, sister Siobhán, and her extended family in Waterford, Wexford and Dublin.

Belated birthday wishes are sent to Jade Reidy, who celebrated her special day on Wednesday, May 27, from all her family and friends.

A happy birthday is wished to Tom Murphy, Briot Grove, Templars Hall, who celebrates on June 10. Best wishes come from his wife Marian, grandchildren Niamh, Darragh, Dylan, Siobhán, Aoife and Shea, and his extended family and friends.

Happy birthday wishes are also sent to Mary Forsey, Portlaw, who celebrated recently. Best wishes come from her husband Frank, children, grandchildren and friends, especially in the Ballybeg area where she is well known.

Southend Academy

Southend FC academy “Friday Night Lights” for boys and girls aged five to seven takes place each Friday at 6pm. Training for all schoolboys and girls continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5.15pm to 6.45pm.

The club’s Split the Pot fundraiser is ongoing, with tickets available from committee members at €10 each.

Sympathy

Deepest sympathy is extended to the Galgey family on the death of John (Seán) Galgey, Plunkett Road, Kingsmeadow, who passed away on Sunday, May 24.

Formerly of New Lane and Roanmore Park and and late of Nacanco (Ball) The Chipboard and A.C. E.C. Reposing took place at Thompson’s Funeral Home, followed by Requiem Mass in the Holy Family Church and burial in Kilbarry Cemetery.

Sympathies are extended to his wife Sadie, daughters Marian and Joyce, son John, sons-in-law and daughter-in-law, his 10 grandchildren and his great grandchildren, sister Breda Alward, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. May Sean Rest In Peace.

St Saviour’s GAA Club

New members are always welcome at St Saviour’s GAA Club. Fun GAA sessions take place every Saturday morning for young children.

Sessions in St Saviour’s National School hall are open to boys and girls born between 2020 and 2022. Training on the astro pitch from 11am to 12pm is for those born in 2019. These sessions provide a fun introduction to hurling and Gaelic football.

An U13 LGFA team has also been formed, with new players welcome.

Gaelic for Mothers and Others has returned for the season and takes place every Wednesday at 7.15pm at the club grounds. All levels of experience are welcome in this relaxed and social environment.

Sympathy

Deepest sympathy is extended to Sadie Duffin, Cork Road, on the death of her sister Marie Doherty (née Duffin), formerly of St Alphonsus Road and late of Faithlegg, who died on Tuesday, May 26.

Reposing took place at Tom Hennessy’s Funeral Home, followed by Requiem Mass in St Nicholas’ Church, Faithlegg, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

May she rest in peace.

St Saviour’s Parish

Mass times at St Saviour’s Church are as follows: weekdays Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 10am; Sunday at 8.30am, 11am and 5.30pm.

Baptisms take place each Sunday at 12 noon. To arrange, contact the parish office with at least one week’s notice.

The parish shop is open daily from 10am to 12.30pm.

The Power Of Prayer

The Parish of St Paul’s invites all to 40 Hours Eucharistic Adoration from 7.30pm on Friday, June 5, to 11.30am Mass on Sunday, June 7.

Those wishing to pray for peace in the world are encouraged to attend at any time during the period. In preparation, Fr Pat has encouraged parishioners to pray: “Lord, send forth your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth” (Psalm 104).

All are welcome, whether for a short visit or a longer time.

Envelope Distribution

Assistance is requested with the distribution of June envelopes. Collection date is Sunday, June 7.

St Paul’s envelopes are available from the Parish Centre from Wednesday, May 27.

Butlerstown envelopes are available from Butlerstown Sacristy from Sunday, May 31.

Scripture School 

The Tarsus Summer Scripture School 2026 will take place from June 15 to June 19 in Maynooth, and online. The programme explores themes of reconciliation and peace-making. Fee is €70. Further details at www.tarsusscriptureschool.ie.

Fundraising Event

A Special Olympics fundraiser will take place in St Paul’s Parish Centre on Friday, June 12. Further details to follow. All support is welcome.

Managing Parkinson’s In Hot Weather

Advice has been issued for those living with Parkinson’s during warm weather, noting that heat can worsen symptoms including fatigue, dehydration, dizziness and balance issues.

St Paul’s Community College

Congratulations to Max McDermott, who was runner-up in the SETU Computer Science Awards 2026. Well done also to Conor O’Hallaran, Tobias Jurkov and Alex Smyth on their achievements.

First-year students recently visited Castlecomer Discovery Park and Kilkenny Castle, while second-year students enjoyed a tour to Explorium in Dublin.

Congratulations to Patryk Nowak, who finished second in the inter boys shot put at the East Munster Athletics Championships.

Transition Year students impressed at portfolio interviews, reflecting positively on their experiences.

Pathfinders St Paul’s

Thanks are extended to all who contributed to a recent Service of Remembrance and Hope.

The Lámh Connect Choir performed to a full house in Christchurch Cathedral, while members also attended an event at Waterford Airport to mark the new runway development.

A recent Muay Thai event showcased inclusive participation and strong community spirit.

Birthday wishes are extended to Nicola on her recent celebrations.

Annual Cemetery Mass

The annual cemetery Mass at St Mary’s Cemetery, Ballygunner, will take place on Thursday, June 18 at 7.30pm. All are welcome.

Summer Walk Series

A contemplative walk will take place on the Maypark River Trail on Wednesday, June 3 at 7pm. Meeting point is Riverwalk car park, Park Lane, Maypark Village. All are welcome.

Bereavement

The death has occurred of Martin Duggan Jnr, Ormonde Crescent, Lismore Lawn, Waterford, and formerly of Ballyard, Co Cork, on May 19.

Martin is sadly missed by his mother Ann, father Martin, daughters Caitlin and Saoirse, wife Gillian, brother Wayne, sister-in-law Stephanie, niece Ella, nephew Éireann, uncles, aunts, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends, especially Rachel. 

Reposing took place at Thompson’s Funeral Home, followed by Requiem Mass in St Paul’s Church, with burial afterwards in St Otteran’s Cemetery.

Lisduggan Credit Union 

Lisduggan Credit Union has launched a €150,000 Community Fund for 2026 to support local projects including community gardens, energy initiatives and capital improvements.

St Paul’s Scouting Group Congratulations to the Cub sections who achieved gold standard at the county challenge, with the 20th Cubs placing second overall.

Waterford Centre Of Music 

Support continues for Waterford Centre of Music following the recent fire, with fundraising efforts ongoing.

Waterford Helping The Homeless

Support is sought to assist ongoing services, with donations welcome via Revolut (083 1855004) or at their unit during opening hours.

Presentation Secondary School

Students achieved Platinum Level at the Microsoft Dream Space Ambassador Awards.

Congratulations also to the senior football team on topping the FAI Waterford Schoolgirls League.

Recent activities included Culture Day celebrations, TY graduation and school tours.

Waterford Sports Partnership

Plans are progressing for a dedicated teenage social space at Carrickphierish Recreation Park, supported by national funding of €400,000.

RSA Check It Fits

Bereavement

The death has occurred of Marie Doherty (née Duffin), late of Bridge Hill, Faithlegg, Co Waterford, and formerly of St Alphonsus Road, Waterford, on Tuesday, May 26.

Marie was predeceased by her husband Philip. She is survived by her sons Philip, Alan and Brendan, sister Sadie, grandchildren, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Requiem Mass took place in St Nicholas’ Church, Faithlegg, at 12 noon, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Condolences are extended to her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

Bereavement

The death has occurred of William (Bill) Richards, late of Williamstown, Waterford City, and formerly of Kilmacanogue, Co Wicklow, on Monday, May 18.

Bill was predeceased by his wife Audrey.

He is sadly missed and fondly remembered by his long-standing friends, relatives and wide circle of acquaintances.

A celebration of Bill’s life will take place at Falconers Funeral Home, Tramore, on Wednesday, June 3, from 2pm to 2.30pm, after which the funeral home will remain open until 3.30pm for friends to pay their respects.

In accordance with his wishes, a private cremation service will take place on the following day.

Condolences are extended to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Parish Eco Group

The St Joseph, St Benildus And St Mary’s Parish Eco Group will host a contemplative walk on Wednesday, June 3. Participants will meet at the Maypark Riverwalk car park, Park Lane, Maypark Village Estate (X91 CH96), at 7pm.

All are welcome to attend for a gentle walk and a pause for reflection.

Photography Competition

The parish photography competition remains open until Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Participants are invited to take photographs of biodiversity along the corridor and submit entries to bcorridorwaterford@gmail.com, including name, location, date and age category.

Winning entries will be displayed in Ardkeen Library and prizes will be awarded.

Cemetery Mass

The annual cemetery Mass at St Mary’s Cemetery, Ballygunner, will take place on Thursday, June 18 at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.

All-Ireland Rosary Rally

Exploring Our Sacred Universe

A four-week course titled Exploring Our Sacred Universe continues on Thursday evenings until June 11, from 7pm to 8.30pm in the parish centre.

The course is facilitated by Cecily Maher and explores spirituality, science and reflection. A fee of €40 applies, and places are limited.

Solas Cancer Support Centre

Free professional support services are available for those affected by cancer, their families and carers in the Waterford area.

Services include counselling, art therapy, acupuncture, music therapy, reflexology, reiki, craniosacral therapy and life coaching.

Supports are also available for children and adolescents, including play therapy and counselling.

Paddy 'Stinger' Ryan Golf Classic

The annual Paddy 'Stinger' Ryan Golf Classic will take place on Friday, June 19, in aid of Pine Grove Day Centre, in association with the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland.

The competition is based on a four-person team (two scores to count), with an entry fee of €200 per team, which includes food before and after play.

Ardkeen Library

The Baby and Me group takes place every Wednesday from 10.30am to 12 noon at Ardkeen Library. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Refugee Week Storytime will be held on Saturday, June 20 at 10.30am. No booking is required.

A Storysack Workshop for children aged five to eight will take place on Thursday, June 11 from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Booking is required.

Tonie figures are now available for loan for those using Tonie boxes.

The My Little Library initiative invites children starting primary school to collect a free book bag, which includes books and helpful resources for families.

Comeragh Active Retirement Group

The knitting and crochet group meets on the first and third Thursday of each month from 2pm to 4pm in Ardkeen Library. All are welcome.

Cruinniú na nÓg Workshop

A collage workshop for teenagers aged 13 to 18 will take place at Central Library on Saturday, June 6 from 2.30pm to 4pm.

The workshop will be led by artist Roibí O Rua. Places are limited and booking is required via centrallibrary@waterfordcouncil.ie or 051 849975.
