The Ferrybank Music Club members made their debut on Friday night at Spraoi, performing at the 'Friends of The River Suir' event at Vincent Wallace Plaza, organized by local resident Joe Tobin. Despite the rain, it was a fantastic evening for Orna, Mary Darlington on drums, Dymphna, Sophia, Matthew, John, Danny, Katie, Tom, and Margaret, who entertained the audience with their music. The club meets every Tuesday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Hillsfield Community Centre (X91 W9YY). All over 18s are welcome to join.
More good news on the housing front as David Flynn Construction has been granted permission to construct 16 news houses at Highfield, Abbeylands, in Ferrybank. Kilkenny County Council has granted planning permission for the demolition of two existing shed buildings and removal of the remaining floor slab of a previous dwelling, to construct12, three-bed units and four, two-bed units. The location of the site, owned by Jessica Mitchell, is next to Farmlea Mews, and Farmlea, where a car valeting services has operated from.
We expend our sympathies to the family of the late Brigid (Biddy) Furlong (nee: Haberlin), Dunmore East, and formerly Gyles Quay, Ferrybank, who died on Wednesday, August 7. Biddy was predeceased by her husband Johnny, parents James and Mary, sister Kitty, son-in-law John. She was the much-loved mother of Maura (Power) and Sean and will be sadly missed by her sister Nan, daughter-in-law Paula, granddaughter Anna, sisters-in-law Maureen and Anne, her nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and friends.
She reposed at Killure Bridge Nursing Home, on Thursday, with Requiem Mass on Friday morning, in Our Lady's Church, Carbally, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Flynn’s Pub's development, The Lodges, is nearly complete, with only groundworks remaining before residents can move in. The Waterford City & County Council has issued a vesting order for a derelict site at 61 Fountain Street, adjacent to The Lodges, under the Derelict Site Act 1990. It is a pity that action wasn’t taken before the new development works began and added to the overall project.
Congratulations to James Griffin and Heather Hayden who were married recently in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Ferrybank, their reception was held in Faithlegg House Hotel.

Thankfully, work on the Abbey Road reopening is progressing well, with completion expected by Friday. This will be a relief for residents and businesses who have dealt with diversions for the past seven weeks. With local schools set to reopen soon, it’s hoped that normal traffic flow will resume in time. Parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new traffic systems to avoid any issues before schools are back in session.
