Stagemad celebrate 20th anniversary with new production

'A Street Car Named Desire' will be staged in November

To celebrate their 20th birthday, Waterford's Stagemad will be transporting audiences to the sultry streets of New Orleans, as the theatre company presents 'A Streetcar Named Desire', the Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece by Tennessee Williams.

This gripping tale of desire, illusion and raw human emotion will take the stage at Garter Lane Arts Centre from Tuesday, November 11 to Saturday, November 15.

It will be staged at 8pm nightly.

The play is a timeless tale of passion and tragedy.

It  follows the haunting journey of Blanche DuBois, a fragile Southern belle whose troubled past collides with the harsh realities of her sister Stella’s life in a cramped French Quarter apartment.

As tensions rise between Blanche and Stella’s brutish husband, Stanley Kowalski, the play unravels a powerful exploration of class, mental fragility and the destructive power of desire.

The 1951 film adaptation directed by Elia Kazan and featuring a career high performance from Marlon Brando, won four Academy Awards.
