New Garter Lane space to open with original play

A unique theatre experience presented by Waterford's own Theatre Vamps is coming to Garter Lane's newly restored basement space this coming March.

Theatre Vamps, the local theatre company behind, 'Educating Rita', 'Misery' and 'Deise Dogs', have become known for taking a different approach to theatre making, whether it’s using minimalist set designs to put the focus on the script and the actors, or performing in venues not usually reserved for theatre.

Next month, they’re taking the latter one step further.

On Friday and Saturday, March 21 and 22, Theatre Vamps will perform their new original play, 'The Dark Room', in the newly restored basement of Garter Lane studios.

The basement was recently refurbished after years lying dormant, and this site-specific play will be the first show performed in this atmospheric space.

In 'The Dark Room', a young woman wakes to find herself tied to a chair in a basement. She realises that she has been abducted by a man she has never met before.

What does he want with her? There are lots of twists and nothing is what it seems in the atmospheric thriller.

Theatre Vamps were recently nominated for a number of Waterford News & Star Green Room Awards for their previous plays, 'Misery' and 'Deise Dogs'.

Tickets for their upcoming play are available on Theatre Vamps page on Eventbrite, and also through a link on the Garter Lane website.

Due to space restrictions, tickets are limited, so don’t miss the chance to see this unique night of theatre. Guests are advised that entrance to the basement is on street level, through the red door directly adjacent to the Jack & Jill shop.

Because of steps and a narrow entrance, this performance is not wheelchair accessible.
