Local band Under Starling celebrate new album with Waterford gig

Under Starling

As part of their ongoing Murmurations tour, Waterford band Under Starling will be performing at Bank Lane this month.

Under Starling is an alternative indie rock group from Waterford, who have become known for their evocative sound that blends atmospheric rock with emotional storytelling.

Their debut album, Murmurations, features standout tracks like the haunting “Hawthorn Tree” and the self-titled "Murmurations", which combines spoken word with melodic instrumentation to evoke the graceful, fluid motion of starlings in flight.

The album delves into themes of resilience, survival, and Irish mythology, earning widespread acclaim. Earmilk describes it as "haunting", while Clout calls it "incredible", highlighting its dynamic sound.

Tracks like "The Hunger", which offer reflections on the Irish Famine, and "Selkie", which explores love and separation, have captivated listeners with a mix of personal and historical narratives that resonate deeply.

Under Starling has gained considerable radio attention, with Murmurations airing on major Irish stations, such as RTÉ Radio 1, 2FM, and iRadio, as well as UK networks like BBC Radio Ulster and Absolute Radio.

The band has been featured on BBC's Where Music Matters playlist and named Absolute Radio’s Artist of the Month. Their live performances, characterised by their emotionally intense shows, have been praised by The Goo and Lost in the Manor for their transformative experience.

With a growing fan base, the local group is quickly establishing itself as one of Ireland’s most promising new bands.

The two-hour gig at Bank Lane takes place on November 22 at 8pm. Tickets are available at banklane.ie
