After having a weekend off last weekend, Waterford FC bounced back to winning ways in the EASPORTS National Under 20 League when they proved too good for CK United in their sixth game of the season played at the Watershed on Saturday afternoon.

With their last away trip not going to plan when slipping to their first defeat of the campaign against Kerry, the Blues were always in control of this contest with the home side finishing the game with ten men after the sending off of Ross Shields with 65 minutes on the clock.

The first-half looked as if the sides were going to go in level at the break, but that all changed in the final minute of the half when Calum Costello grabbed his fourth goal of the season with a neat finish with the same player doubling the advantage in the third-minute of the second-half.

That goal from Costello was a massive one in terms of how the second period panned out as the young Blues played some great football and it also allowed the management team made a triple change on 56 minutes.

One of the players who was introduced – Sean Keane grabbed a third goal for his side three minutes after entering the fray when goalscorer Costello turned provider with a neat ball for the defender to beat the CK United keeper Evan O’Neill with Zac O’Sullivan completing the scoring for the Blues on 79 minutes.

Waterford took on Cobh Ramblers in St. Colman’s Park after we went to print yesterday (Monday) and they’ll be back in action at the SETU Arena on this Saturday afternoon, May 11, when they take on Cork City with a 2pm kick-off.

UNDER 17S & UNDER 15S

The Men’s Under 17 side slipped to their sixth defeat of the season when losing 3-0 away to Wexford FC on Sunday with the Under 15s also losing against Wexford FC in their home game. Callum Slattery was the man that got the Waterford goal in a 2-1 defeat with Alex Norval and Darragh Buttle scoring for the visitors.

UNDER 14S

There was no joy for the Waterford FC Under 14s on Sunday last as their trip to Ferrycarrig Park saw another defeat as they lost out 2-1. Jude Rossiter got both goals for the hosts with Cormac Lowry scoring the Blues goal.

SIX ON THE BOUNCE

There was a stunning performance from the Waterford FC Women’s Under 17 side as they claimed their sixth win out of six games with a rampant 8-0 win over Cobh Ramblers played at the SETU Arena also played on Saturday afternoon last.

After their impressive 2-0 win over Cork City in their last game, the Blues were always in control of this tie where a goal inside the opening five minutes set the tone. Polly Redmond turned provider for Cliodhna Malone for the opener before Keira Burke notched a second goal on 16 minutes.

A third goal arrived four minutes later through Polly Redmond with a fourth goal for the hosts coming on 33 minutes through Issy Kenna. It got better for Waterford three minutes into first-half injury-time with Redmond netting her second and her sides fifth after some good work from Abi Rossiter.

Three more goals came in the second-half for Waterford with substitute Zara Corcoran grabbing a brace with Olivia Shannon providing two assists with the first second-half goal on 56 minutes through Ellie Rose O’Carroll. Waterford took on Bray Wanderers yesterday (Monday) before travelling to CK United this Saturday. There was no joy for the Women’s Under 19’s as they lost 2-0 at home to Wexford FC with Jess Lawler and Jenny Beirne-Bowden netting for the visitors.
