Waterford FC will take on Drogheda United tonight (Thursday) in front of the Virgin Media live cameras for the first time in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division at the RSC since a Phoenix Patterson goal gave the Blues a 1-0 win back in September 2021.
But for Blues Head Coach Keith Long, he’ll be looking for back-to-back home wins after a recent 4-1 win over Dundalk and also in a bid to get back on track after Friday’s loss against Shelbourne at Tolka Park however it won’t be an easy assignment.
Speaking ahead of the game against Drogheda, Long said: “I think that we were the best side away from home in the division before the game tonight. I’m not sure how that is now with results tonight. We’ve travelled away well. We’ve come to places like this and normally performed, but tonight we didn’t.
“We have a quick turnaround now as we face Drogheda on Thursday night. It’s our most important game because it’s our next one. That’s where our full focus will be. Drogheda are a good side and we know that they’ll make it difficult for us.
“They’re a seasoned Premier Division side now. We beat them well up in Drogheda the last day, but again that counts for nothing. We’ve got to win on Thursday and it’s important that we try bounce back after tonight and do all we can to win the game against Drogheda.” TEAM NEWS Barry Baggley remains on the sidelines (lower back). Ryan Burke returned to the matchday squad last week, having missed two weeks out. Kacper Skwierczynski is also back in training, after picking up a knock.
"Our supporters have been fantastic for us both home and away all season. That’s been pivotal to our positive start to the season. We know every time we step out on the pitch they’ll give us the support we need, so it’s up to us to keep giving them something to shout about in the stands."
