Freya continues to make great strides in jiu-jitsu

Freya Marsh is an 11 year old girl from Waterford, who is making great strides in her chosen field of jiu-jitsu. This year Freya has had an incredible year on the World platform where she has travelled to Florida, Sao Paolo, Lisbon and Abu Dhabi to compete in the four of the biggest and toughest jiu-jitsu competitions on the world stage.

She has brought home two Silvers and two Golds for Ireland and her club, Checkmat Waterford. These medals were Silver in the Brasileiros (Brazil Nationals) as well as this weekend in Abu Dhabi Worlds. In Florida she earned the gold in the Pan Americans, and most recently, achieved her third European gold in Lisbon.

Freya has fierce drive and determination rarely seen in a child her age. She is currently managing her school and social life, while also training at a professional athlete level, managing Jiujitsu, strength and conditioning, MMA, Boxing and Muay Thai.

A late starter to jiu-jitsu, Freya is also currently the focus of a documentary by a Brazilian crew based in Ireland that have recognised her journey and are following her capturing what's involved in her progress.

Freya trains under a Brazilian black belt coach Wagner Lavezzi at Checkmat Waterford and is an impressive example of what a likeminded hardworking team can create. She is currently number 1 at her weight division with IBJJF.
