Work has begun on developing the car park facilities in the village car park at Tourin Community Hall in County Waterford.

One of those involved in the hall committee highlighted that people passing the hall will notice that clearance work took place at the site.

That work was done in the run up to Christmas and the committee spokesperson said: "Work on completing the carparking facilities will begin in the coming weeks. Once complete the existing capacity will be greatly increased."

She said it's hoped that roadside car parking will be removed by the summer. The committee is also inviting anyone interested in helping out to get in touch with the committee Chairperson, Michael Meaney, for further information.

Like everywhere across the county recent spells of seriously inclement weather also hit the Tourin area, however, it wasn't as badly affected as some other areas in Waterford.

"We were very lucky in our area and while showers of hail, sleet, and even snow fell, we have escaped the very worst of it and our roads did not fare out too badly," said the committee member.

The committee also liaised with local elected representatives in the hope that Tourin Community Hall car park could be used as a drop off point for grit to be used locally.

"There are a few extremely bad bends in our locality and areas which are susceptible to water pooling which cause issues in icy conditions," said the spokesperson.

However, local rural roads are rarely on the priority list for gritting but the committee is still grateful to the efforts of local councillors who made representations on behalf of the community including Councillors Niamh O’Donovan, John Pratt and Donnchadh Mulcahy
