A woman will serve an eight month sentence for committing theft in Waterford, after having her appeal denied.

Rubla Muntean, of 63 Manor Street, stole a parcel that had been left in a post-box, at a home on Mount Sion Avenue, by Fastway Couriers.

The package contained clothing worth €40. Muntean opened the post-box and took the package.

It is understood that Montean has a history of offending going back to 2006.

The 39-year-old received the sentence of eight months last November at Waterford District Court.

At Waterford District Court of Appeals, defence counsel Kate Kelly BL told Judge Eugene O’Kelly that her client was a single mother to four children aged between 13 to 6 years old.

The court was informed that Muntean had 25 previous convictions for theft.

Judge O’Kelly refused the appeal, stating that Muntean had previously received the benefit of suspended sentences.
