Waterford Yesteryear is available now - the perfect Christmas gift!

Waterford Yesteryear is available from The Book Centre.

Step back in time with Waterford Yesteryear, a calendar from Waterford News & Star photographer and Master of the Archives, Joe Evans.

Waterford Yesteryear is a calendar that will bring you back, before you move forward!

This year’s edition celebrates the work of local photographer Simon Farrell, a well-loved figure from the Cork Road, who captured the spirit of Waterford through his lens.

Known for his contributions to Irish national newspapers and local papers, Simon documented the day’s news and, occasionally, weddings, preserving moments that are now precious memories.

Through the efforts of Joe Evans, who salvaged and restored Simon’s original glass plate negatives, Waterford Yesteryear features 12 iconic scenes from the 1950s and 60s that will resonate deeply with the community.

Favourites like Elliott’s Chip Van, Summerland Bakery, and Tramore’s Hydro Hotel - places long since gone - are lovingly brought back to life, evoking fond memories for Waterford locals of all ages.

Joe, who cherishes these old memories, as much as capturing new ones, hopes that as you turn each page of this 2025 calendar, you'll be transported to a special time and place in Waterford’s history.

Waterford Yesteryear is available now for €9.99 from The Book Centre in Waterford City.

Also still available from The Book Centre is 'Colourful Memories of Waterford', the perfect Christmas gift, bringing historic photographs to life in ways that black and white simply cannot.

The book by Joe Evans brings historic images of Waterford to life in vivid colour, capturing local people in a way never before seen!
