A woman from Waterford City will be coming down from a height later this month to raise money for the Solas Cancer Support Centre.

Julie Quinlan, who is conductor of Waterford City Brass and a native of Lismore Park, will be taking on an abseil of Croke Park on Friday, April 25.

A very popular member of the community she will be undertaking the challenge in support of what is one of the most highly respected community support organisations in Waterford.

As part of her fundraiser Julie has an  If any of you would like to support Julie in this challenge sponsorship cards available at Solas Centre or online on the idonate.ie website under the banner 'juliequinlanabseilforsolas'.

Commenting on her event on the webpage, Julie, who lives in Ballymacaw in Co Waterford, stated: "Abseiling off Croke Park is not something I thought I would be doing in my 50's - but sure here goes."

"My only experience of heights are the zip lines and tree top walks while on holidays, and even then they were completed with closed eyes and lots of screaming," she stated.

However, she expressed delight in being part of the Solas Cancer Support Centre Abseil challenge.

"The centre provides such vital support to the people of Waterford and the South East at their greatest time of need and vulnerability," she stated.

"Unfortunately, most families will experience cancer, mine included and the Solas Centre provides that safe space," she added, before going on to state: "I am honoured to lead the Solas Cancer Support Centre Choir on Tuesday evenings."

"It is a joy and privilege to work with such happy and engaging people - all singing and making music together," she added.
