The ‘Waterford Wheels’ cycling challenge will be launched as an opening cycle commute on May 12.

The event is being organised to coincide with national Bike Week, which will run from May 10 to 18.

The organisers told waterford-news.ie and Waterford News & Star that the meeting point for the opening cycle will be 8am at the,  Greenway, 'Park and Cycle' car park located next to SETU Arena car park at Carriganore, in Waterford City.

"We will cycle the greenway, getting into the city for approximately 8.45am and then enjoy complementary hot drinks and snacks," said one of the organisers.

"All you have to do is see how many cycle commutes you can make during the dates," she added.

The organisations that log the highest numbers of cycling trips will come out on top.

"It is open to staff and students of workplaces and learning institutions across Waterford," said the organising team member.

Anyone interested in taking part can register their interest by emailing climateaction@waterfordcouncil.ie with the subject 'Waterford Wheels'.
