Waterford TD calls on council to work with Tramore sports clubs on a plan for the future
Tramore Promenade in Co Waterford
Waterford TD David Cullinane has written to the Chief Executive of Waterford City and County Council on behalf of sporting organisations in Tramore.
He said in a post on social media that facilities in the seaside town are not sustainable and it’s putting local sports clubs under pressure.
The deputy said is asking the council to engage directly with clubs to come up with a plan.
“These clubs are doing fantastic work for young people, families and the wider community.
"They are powered by volunteers and they provide opportunities for people of all ages to get involved in sport.
“But many clubs are under real pressure.
"Some are outgrowing their facilities, some do not own their facilities and others have no facilities or facilities that are not fit for purpose.
“As Tramore continues to grow, we need a proper plan for sports in the town and the surrounding area,” said Deputy Cullinane.
Deputy Cullinane said he, along with Councillor Jim Griffin, would meet with clubs next week.
“Sport is central to community life in any town, including Tramore. The clubs have stepped up for years.
"Now they need to be supported with a proper plan for the future,” said Deputy Cullinane.
