The Gardaí in Waterford issued a notice online highlighting the number of fatalities that have occurred, to date in 2025, involving pedestrians and e-scooter drivers or passengers on public roads.
In a post on its social media pages the force said that to-date 37 pedestrians and two e-scooter driver/passengers have been killed on our roads.
'Among them, our oldest citizens are particularly vulnerable; people aged over 80 make up a large share of these deaths,' noted the Gardaí in their post.
It was also highlighted that four-in-10 pedestrians killed this year were killed in hours of darkness.
'These losses reflect a clear pattern - attention and visibility matter- and often, it is the difference between life and death,' noted the Gardaí.
Unfortunately, communities in Waterford and South Kilkenny were both affected by such accidental tragedies in recent days and the Gardai issued the notice as part of #KeepingPeopleSafe and #CanYouSeeMeNow campaigns.
