M50 traffic coming from Dublin Airport at a standstill due to taxi protest

Traffic travelling on the M50 out of Dublin Airport is almost at a standstill, as taxi drivers stage one part of their protest there.
DAA is advising anyone flying out of the airport this evening to allow extra time for getting there.
Airport police are working with Gardaí and council traffic management teams to minimise disruption.

There are traffic delays around Dublin this evening, as taxi drivers stage a slow-down protest in the city.
It is in response to Uber's plans to introduce fixed-rate fares for passengers, which drivers say will impact their income massively.
Hundreds of taxis are driving no faster than 25 kilometres an hour from Conyngham Road, Clontarf and around Dublin Airport for the next two hours.
Speaking to Newstalk, Keith Harris is leading the line from Clontarf and says he understands people's frustration with the delays: "This might damage our image, but we hope it will not.
"We will still be there every night to bring people home. This is not a vendetta against the people; we are trying to combat what Uber is doing."
The Dublin City Council Traffic & Incident Management Centre are urging people to divert from the North Quays due to the protest. protest.
Meanwhile, Drive Live said at 4:45pm, the Clontarf protest is on Clontarf Road inbound, while the western protest is on Arran Quay.
They said the Swords protest is out of my visual range, but I see very heavy traffic around the Malahide Road Roundabout.

The taxi driver protests come as some university students are engaging in pre-Christmas celebrations on the streets of Dublin.
Dublin College Xmas Day invites students to don Christmas jumpers and flock onto the streets to celebrate the last night before exams start, with parties also being held throughout the day and night.
Workman’s Club is hosting a branded End of Semester International Student Party, with Flannery’s and other bars also promoting “Christmas Day” student nights on Thursday.
