Woman hospitalised following serious assault at Waterford church

Gardaí are at the scene of a suspected stabbing at Holy Cross Church in Tramore in County Waterford.
Emergency services responded to the incident where a woman in her 50s is believed to have been attacked on the altar of the church.
The woman has been taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment for injuries that are serious but not thought to be life-threatening.
A male in his 30s was arrested at a nearby residence and is believed to be local.
In a statement issued by An Garda Síochána, a spokesperson said gardaí responded to an incident at a premises on Summerhill.
Gardaí seized a knife which will be technically examined.
“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
“Any person who was in the vicinity of Summerhill, Tramore between 9:15am and 10.15am on Tuesday, July 21, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) is asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Tramore Garda Station on (051) 391620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station,” said the spokesperson.
