Waterford gardaí remind drivers of tragic case that led to a frequently broken road law

Gardaí in Waterford are reminding drivers of the tragic case that led to an important law, after they caught a driver breaking it.
Gardaí from Waterford Roads Policing Unit were carrying out a MIT checkpoint when they came across a driver who was an unaccompanied learner with no L plates displayed on their car.
Gardaí seized the car and issued a fine.
The driver will also receive penalty points.
The requirement for learner drivers to be accompanied by a qualified driver is legislated for under the Clancy Amendment.
Waterford Gardaí said in a post on social media that the law was named after mother and daughter Geraldine and Louise Clancy, who were killed in December 2015 by an unaccompanied learner driver.
