The Gardaí in Waterford have issued a warning to the public to be wary of a scam that purports to be related to the National Car Testing Service NCT.
In an online post the Gardaí said: 'In previous days there has been coverage online regarding motorists who are being caught by fake websites posing as the National Car Testing Service (NCT).'
'These cloned sites appear in search results, take payments of €60–€600, and no booking is made,' added the Gardaí.
Motorists are advised that the only official NCT booking site is at www.ncts.ie and the Gardaí encourage people to take precautions and protect themselves by typing the website address manually, be cautious of sponsored search result and never pay third parties to 'secure' an NCT appointment.'
'If you think you’ve been affected, contact your bank immediately for advice on fraudulent charges,' said the Gardai.
