Waterford footwear brand wins award for design

SAMPLA founder Finbarr Power won the overall award for this year's Irish Business Design Challenge.
A Waterford-based sustainable footwear company has won a major award from the Design & Craft Council Ireland.
SAMPLA footwear was given the overall award in the micro/small category in this year’s Irish Business Design Challenge.
The footwear is made ethically from apple, and is created by hand-skilled crafters in Portugal.
Founder and owner Finbarr Power said: "The goal was to create a footwear brand that would set an example within the fashion industry.
"My father worked with Waterford Crystal, he was a crystal cutter. My brother was a product designer so I've always been surrounded by design."
