A Waterford credit union has given its support to the Sunny South East Cycle which is a charity event aimed at raising money for the Waterford and South Kilkenny branch of Down Syndrome Ireland.

Linda O’Kane, from Journi Credit Union, took delight recently in presenting a donation on behalf of the organisation to John Byrne - who was representing the Sunny South East Cycle organisers.

Also present at the cheque handover were John's daughters, Aoibhe and Jamie.

The Sunny South East Cycle, in aid of the Waterford and South Kilkenny branch of Down Syndrome Ireland, will take place on August 23.

It will be comprised of three routes starting at SETU: a 125 km cycle through the Comeragh Mountains to Dungarvan and back via the coast road; an 80 km cycle to Durrow and back via the coast road; and a 12 km family cycle on the Greenway from SETU to Kilmeaden and back.

The event was the biggest fundraiser for the Waterford & South Kilkenny branch of Down Syndrome Ireland last year, and it is hoped that this year will attract even more cyclists.

The money raised is vital for the recreational activities and therapies their members receive, which enhance their quality of life.
