Dungarvan councillor Damien Geoghegan has hit out at Waterford City and County Council’s response to illegal encampments in West Waterford.

Cllr Geoghegan was speaking at the January sitting of the Dungarvan-Lismore District Council.

He said the situation was not fair to residents at Quans in Dungarvan and Childers Estate.

“There are caravans on public green spaces in Dungarvan, and the council housing department is taking a softly softly approach in relation to it, and I want it dealt with. I think it should be dealt with,” said Cllr Geoghegan.

Senior Architect Walter Holden said the housing and roads sections are working on the situation and that he would come back to the councillor on it.

Cllr Geoghegan reiterated his stance that the situation is “not good enough”.
