Man charged following firearm incident in Waterford City A man has been remanded in custody following a serious public order incident in Waterford City on Friday, September 11.
Waterford Gardaí responded to an alleged public order incident on Friday afternoon at Broad Street, just off John Roberts Square in Waterford city.
The incident, which occurred around 4:40pm according to a Garda spokesperson, involved a man aged in his 40s.
It is understood an altercation took place, with videos posted online of the alleged incident on Friday evening. A man was alleged to have what appeared to be a firearm, in the presence of a large crowd which included school children and shoppers.
It is understood the man was stopped by passers-by and subsequently arrested by Gardaí who recovered a suspected imitation firearm from his person.
Thomas Cullen, aged 42, of Prospect House, Coolfin, Portlaw, was detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the Waterford area and brought to Clonmel District Court the next evening, Saturday, September 12, at 5pm.
Mr. Cullen was charged under section 9A and 9(5) of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990, for the unlawful possession of a realistic imitation firearm and for producing said firearm with the intent to cause fear or intimate others.
He has since been remanded in custody until the next sitting of Waterford District Court, tomorrow, Tuesday, September 15.
