Man guilty of sexual assaults he committed as a child at a Waterford address
The man committed the sexual assaults when he was a child.
A man in his 20's has pleaded guilty to committing two counts of sexual assault over a decade ago.
The man admitted to sexually assaulting two children at an address in Waterford between 2015 and 2018.
He recently pleaded guilty to committing two counts of sexual assault contrary to Section 2 of the Rape Amendment Act.
The man cannot be named to protect the identity of the victims.
In Waterford Circuit Court, Senior Counsel Diana Stuart told Judge Eugene O'Kelly that the man was also a child at the time of offending.
Ms. Stuart requested that Legal Aid be extended to prepare a psychiatric report pending the man's sentence. Judge O'Kelly asked if such a report would be "speculative" or if the defendant would be better served by a probation report.
Ms. Stuart said that there's "certainly an unusual factor in that [the defendant] was so young when the offending began."
Judge O'Kelly responded: "I must listen to the victims in this case," and made a request for victim impact statements.
A probation and welfare report will be prepared before the man's sentencing.
The man was released on bail and is required to sign on once a week at a Garda Station, surrender his passport, make no plans to travel and to have no contact whatsoever with the victims.
A hearing will take place on January 13, 2027, to fix a date for sentencing.
