Psychiatric report sought for man accused of stabbing woman in Waterford church
Cummins has been in custody since July 21, 2026.
A man accused of stabbing a woman in a Waterford church is slated to appear in court next month.
Niall Cummins (36) has been in custody since July 21 after being arrested in connection with the stabbing of a woman on the altar of the Holy Cross Church in Tramore. The woman, aged in her 50's, was taken to University Hospital Waterford for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Cummins, of The Willows, Clarinwood, Tramore, appeared at Waterford Circuit Court before Judge Eugene O'Neill.
Defence counsel Gareth Hayden BL requested that Legal Aid be extended for the preparation of a psychiatric evaluation. The court heard that there was a "question of his (the accused) capacity". Judge O'Kelly accepted the application.
