Waterford Council advises farmers as cold weather snap looms
A spokesperson for the local authority said there are restrictions on organic fertiliser spreading and soiled water - within 48 hours of heavy rain.
Waterford City and County Council has issued notice of restrictions to farmers ahead of the imminent arrival of Storm Goretti, which is due to hit the country tomorrow, Thursday, January 8.
A spokesperson for the local authority said there are restrictions on organic fertiliser spreading - and soiled water - within 48 hours of heavy rain.
The reminder came in the wake of Met Éireann issuing an advisory yellow snow and ice weather warning for the county - that's due to come into effect between 12pm and 8pm tomorrow [Thursday, January 8].
In its warning Met Éireann said the possible impacts could include spot flooding, hazardous travel conditions and poor visibility.
Under the European Union (Good Agricultural Practice for Protection of Waters) Regulations 2022, organic and chemical fertilisers, or soiled water, shall not be applied to land when it is snow-covered, frozen or waterlogged, or when heavy rain is forecast within 48 hours.
