Waterford and Dungarvan prepare for Alzheimer's Memory Walk
The Alzheimer's Memory walk takes place on Sunday September 20.
Waterford and Dungarvan are gearing up for the nationwide Alzheimer's Memory Walk.
The Memory Walk is in honour of the 64,000 people living with dementia in Ireland.
The first walk in Waterford takes place Sunday morning, September 20 at the Pinegrove Day Care Centre. Led by Local Champion Niamh Kennedy, the walk starts at 11am and will follow a 3km route from the centre.
In Dungarvan, the walk begins at 11am from the Causeway Tennis Club for a 4.5km walk, led by Local Champions Sarah O’Donnell and Cathyrn O’Leary.
Dungarvan is a designated ASI Dementia Inclusive Community, led by the Friends of ASI. The community aims to provide a welcoming and caring environment for people impacted by dementia, through initiatives like the Memory Café.
Last year, the walks raised over €240,000 nationally, which funded vital ASI services including Daycare, Family Carer Training, Social Clubs, Dementia Cafés and the National Helpline.
“We are really looking forward to this year’s Waterford Memory Walks supported by Aviva,” said Cathryn, Sarah and Niamh. “Whether you walk in memory of a loved one, in support of someone living with dementia, or simply to show solidarity, your presence makes a difference. Memory Walk is a chance to share stories, honour those impacted by dementia, and create new memories together. We encourage everyone to register now at www.memorywalk.ie and join us in either Waterford City or Dungarvan on Sunday 20th September.”
