Members of a local active retirement group took time out to enjoy one of County Waterford's walking amenities recently for what was a great day out.

The Tay and Mahon Valley ARA visited the Bunmahon Boardwalk for a leisurely stroll following which they enjoyed a nice 'cuppa' in the Engine House.

Commenting on some memories of times gone by one member of the group spoke of blackberry picking and said: "Blackberries were an important crop in my youth. Not only was the nectar produced important for the bees it was was also an important part of income for rural families."

"Blackberries were worth about two schillings per stone weight,(aprox two gallons in dairy bucket)," he added.

The group's next walk will take place on Monday, August 11, when the members will visit the Anne Valley Walk/ They will meet up on the Dunhill side at 2pm, or if only going for cuppa and chat 3pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend and you don't have to me a member of the organisation.
