On Thursday, September 9, a number of vehicles were broken into in Waterford City. 

A Garda spokesperson said such offences are on the increase and the public are being urged to be vigilant when locking their cars and securing their keys.

"In the Carrig An Ard estate in Kilbarry, we had five reported incidents of vehicles being broken into and in one case a vehicle being stolen, when the culprits entered a house and stole the keys of the vehicle," she said. 

"The suspects have been arrested and charged and the vehicle returned to the owner in this case," she added. Owners should ensure their vehicles are locked and consider parking in a well-lit area.

"If you have a video doorbell position the car to allow full use of the recording device and if need be adjust the angle of the camera to take in the area the vehicle is parked, having full regard to GDPR regulations," she said.
