'Urgent' taskforce needed to aid retailers in county Waterford
"Urgent" action is needed to provide relief to retailers in Waterford city and Dungarvan, a local councillor said last week.
During the recent Plenary Council meeting, Cllr Joe O'Riordan called for the establishment of a taskforce to aid retailers, as outlets across the county continue to struggle.
"In light of very prominent retail business closures in the city and Dungarvan, can we please as a Council set up a taskforce urgently, to tackle the challenges of retail and engage with business on how we can aid our retail.
"In the current climate it is very difficult, but if we can provide relief, we should be proactive on this" he said.
In response to the query, Waterford Council Acting Director of Services, Claire Hartley, said:
"With regard to a retail taskforce, we certainly are working to establish a retail forum, meeting with retailers in the city and Dungarvan
"We certainly are running out a programme of supports for retailers in 2026."
