A unique race is scheduled to take place in Waterford on Sunday, January 12.
The 36th annual Kiely Monumental Colligan Cup race will take place in Touraneena.
The juvenile race race is scheduled to begin at 11am and the senior event will start at 12 noon. The senior race will be run over the usual five miles Colligan Wood circuit and the juveniles will have a single one-mile circuit to run.
The Colligan cup is a unique event in that it is run on a handicap basis where the competitors predict their finishing time over a 5-mile run with the winner being the person who is nearest to their predicted time. That arrangement makes the race open to all, regardless of their ability or level. Because of that everyone who participates has an equal chance of taking the title.
