ANALYSIS: Waterford has seen a relatively steady decline in official homelessness figures
Eighty-five families (up from 79) were recorded as homeless, including 137 children, an increase of 14 on the July report.
The number of recorded homeless people in Waterford has decreased, according to new figures published by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
According to the latest Monthly Homelessness Report, 98 adults were in emergency accommodation in Waterford between August 24 and 30.
Waterford’s report for July found 106 adults in emergency accommodation and 105 in June, showing a relatively steady decline over the last few months.
Tipperary again had the highest number of adults in emergency accommodation in the South East region, with 115, up from 112 the previous month.
Wexford, although seeing a rise of two, had the lowest figure at 39 adults, followed by Kilkenny, which saw a decrease of two, bringing it to 42 in August.
Carlow had 62 adults in emergency accommodation, an increase of four people.

The total number of people recorded as homeless in the South East was 441, down from 480in July.
The monthly homelessness report records the number of adults in local authority emergency accommodation by county on a given day of the month and the number of children and families by region.
It is important to note that these figures do not include people sleeping rough, in their cars or on sofas and in spare rooms.
Those people, often called the “hidden homeless,” are not recorded and so are not captured in the statistics.
This means the total number of people homeless in Waterford and the South East is not known but is most certainly higher than the official figures suggest.
