Two years for John St attack

A Waterford man has received a two year prison sentence for his unprovoked attack on a man in the city.
Eric Crowley (28), of Coolegower, Tramore Road, Waterford attacked a man on the night of April 17, 2022 on John Street. The victim had been waiting at a taxi rank with his wife after enjoying a night out. They had recently welcomed a child and this was their first night out together since the new arrival. At the rank, Crowley attacked the man, breaking his nose. Gardaí were in close proximity and quickly attended the scene.
Judge Eugene O'Kelly gave a sentence of 3 years and 6 months but suspended the final 18 months in mitigation of Crowley's letter of apology and compensation of €6,000 towards the victim.
