A 31-year-old Tramore man appeared in Waterford Courthouse last week appealing the sentence he received for possessing a large quantity of ketamine for the purpose of sale or supply.

On March 22, 2022, Customs and Excise became aware of a package which contained a large quantity of ketamine, the total value of which was approximately €4,000.

The package was addressed to the residence of Johnathan Condron, at 14 Beachmount Crescent, Tramore.

A controlled delivery of the package to the residence was undertaken by gardaí.

Condron was subsequently searched and was found with a bag of ketamine on his person.

He pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled substance for the purpose of sale or supply and was sentenced to eight months imprisonment.

Condron recently appeared at Waterford Courthouse to appeal the sentence.

In mitigation, his Defence Counsel outlined that his probation report was largely positive and that he was at a low risk of reoffending in the next 12 months.

It was noted that he has had negative peers and substance misuse struggles.

The court heard that the man had "taken positive strides" since the crime.

Judge Jennifer O’Brien suspended the eight month sentence for a period of two years.

He was ordered to continue engaging with addiction services.
