At this month’s Comeragh District meeting, concerns were expressed by councillors over the absence of respresentatives from Waterford City and County Council's Planning Department.

At the monthly district meetings, councillors are given the opportunity to make representations on behalf of their constituents to senior Council staff.

Staff with responsibility for housing, environment, roads and planning are expected to attend to respond to the councillors' representations.

However, this month, nobody from the Council's Planning Department attended the Comeragh meeting.

Chair of the District, Cllr John O’Leary, expressed his displeasure over the matter.

"There are no planners present today and I think its totally unacceptable to have the Comeragh District assemble for its monthly meeting and have no representation, meaning no questions can be taken.

“There are a lot of planning issues that we wanted to discuss. We want to ensure the continuity of building and ensure that planning is carried out in a proper manner in accordance with rules and regulations. To me, it’s unacceptable to have no one from planning here this morning."

Cllr Catherine Burke added she had four very important areas she wanted to discuss with planners during the meeting.

“The feeling in general is that public representatives here are disappointed and not happy" Cllr O'Leary added.
