City centre parking was brought to the forefront at the recent Metro meeting.
Councillor Declan Barry asked the Council Executive if there was 'any movement' on the proposed Michael Street development. He referenced the the abandoned multi-story carpark on New Street.
The Independent Councillor commented: "Is there any movement at all, whatsoever, on the Michael Steet development? I've been there three years and I know it goes back much longer than that.
"It makes perfect sense to put that carpark back into play there on New Street. Some people were saying the spaces were too small, but 250 carparking spaces are better than no no parking spaces."
He added: "There needs to be a will there to put that back into play. Many visitors to the City have continuous issues with trying to get somewhere to park, it's no wonder if people are not coming into the city."
Senior Engineer Paul Johnston told Cllr Barry that the economic development team are working on the design process on Michael Street. He said: "We're working with our planning colleagues to ensure sustainability. We will get back to you, there will be a workshop."
