Talk on Mons Star to the Royal Irish Regiment to take place in Waterford

Mons Stars to the Royal Irish Regiment will be the focus of attention in the talk

An intriguing talk will take place in Central Library in Waterford City today, Wednesday, September 3, at 6.30pm.

The event will focus attention on the stories behind the 'Mons Star to the Royal Irish Regiment', contained in a groundbreaking new book by Mary Anne Maher and Larry Scallan.

Focusing on soldiers from Waterford, Tipperary, Kilkenny and Wexford, the book charts the 1,928 men of the regiment who received the 1914 ‘Mons Star’ medal for service in France and Belgium at the outbreak of the First World War.

A notice from Waterford Libraries stated the research into the book drew on four years of meticulous research through which 'the authors reveal moving personal stories, local connections, and the fate of those killed, captured, or returned'.

The public is invited to join the authors of the book in Waterford Central Library for what promises to be a fascinating and poignant talk.
