Coastal accessibility study under way in County Waterford
Waterford Council and the Waterford Outdoor Recreation Committee are preparing a report regarding accessibility at designated beaches and coastal access points.
Waterford City and County Council and the Waterford Outdoor Recreation Committee is currently in the process of preparing a report regarding accessibility at designated beaches and coastal access points.
The aim of the report is to facilitate outdoor recreation pursuits including walking, open water swimming and water sports.
A spokesperson for Waterford City & County Council said the study is an action identified within the recently launched Waterford Outdoor Recreation Plan.
A company called Outscape has been engaged to assist with the preparation of the final report.
The final report aims to provide the local authority with a roadmap for proposed access and sustainable visitor experience improvements which can be implemented incrementally as funding permits in the coming years.
The spokesperson said that all improvements will be considered in the context of the sensitive environment of Waterford’s coasts and waterways.
This will ensure that recommendations are proportionate to the likely benefits, and are sustainable.
The study is being funded under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) 2024/2025.
The local authority is now seeking the views of recreational user groups, clubs, community organisations, activity providers, landowners and other stakeholders by taking a short survey with regard to specific sites.
The stakeholder survey, which can be accessed online at https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/4e72356794414c4980665084b1b8f2fa and it will remain open up until September 15.
The survey should take no longer than five minutes to complete.
