Suspects identified in high-profile illegal dumping case
Illegal dumping near Ballylaneen, Bunmahon,
Individuals suspected to be involved with a serious case of illegal dumping in county Waterford have been identified.
On Monday, December 15, Environmental Inspectors came across a site near the village of Ballylaneen, Bonmahon which had been subject to a considerable volume of illegal dumping.

Waterford City and County Council began investigating the case and publicised an appeal for information from the public.
Niall Kane, Senior Executive Engineer with Waterford City and County Council Environment Section, said at the time that the incident “bears all the hallmarks of an unauthorised ‘man in a van’ operator.”
Mr Kane added: “These illegal operators often advertise on social media and may seem to offer good value, but your waste could end up dumped like this. Before engaging someone to remove your waste you should always check to ensure they have a waste collection permit.”

Senior Executive Officer in the Council’s Environment Department, Dawn Wallace, confirmed this week that names have been identified, and proceedings are ongoing regarding the matter.

Meanwhile, Ms. Wallace has also revealed the number of rubbish dumping incidents which took place in the Comeragh District last year.
There were 21 incidents of fly tipping reported, 49 incidents of illegal dumping, and 21 incidents of littering.
