Spraoi Day Two: Morbidly funny, captivating with a helping of food for thought

Waterford City was treated to a spectacular display of performances on Spraoi day two.
Waterford’s own Curious State captivated a sizeable crowd at Constitution Square with Morbid and Sons.
Darkly comic, over the top and absolutely hilarious. If you love Tim Burton films, you will love this performance.
Catch it again on Sunday at 1 pm and 2:15 pm on Constitution Square.
Morbid and Sons followed the amazing and Waterford-made The Most Dangerous Animal in the World.
This one-woman show by Jazzville Productions was bizarre. It will leave you wondering what you just watched but very happy you did. If you have ever felt out of step in life, this one is for you.
The Most Dangerous Animal in the World returns for day three on Constitution Square at 2:15 pm and again at 4:30 pm.
Shape of the Sky by Taking Flight was just stunning. Three trapeze performances, each with their own story.
From the lived experience of trans people navigating a society that can be frightening and the hope that persists to the overwhelming effect of modern technology on mental health, Shape of the Sky is far more than an aerial performance and one of the top highlights of the festival.
One of the most amazing parts of the show for me was the 64-year-old trapeze artist Jackie, who debuted at this year’s festival and whose movements were so elegant you might think she was born in the sky.
If you missed Shape of the Sky yesterday, fear not. Taking Flight will perform on Sunday on the Mall at 1 pm, 2 pm, 2:45 and 4 pm.
There were so many other acts to mention: Inertie with fantastic, oddly calming, you couldn’t look away.
Bamboo were insanely good, and L’Homme-Orchestre will definitely come out as an audience favourite this year.
And Dawns Dawns Dawns will for sure inspire a new generation of dancers. There was a little girl in the front row copying as many moves as she could.
The dancers were fantastic with the children, and the girl in the front row was one of the kids invited to dance; the audience in our area was thrilled to see her get he moment.
And for anyone wondering, yes, kids these days are still playing hopscotch.
