Rubbish dumping getting out of hand in rural Waterford

Cllr Liam Brazil said that CCTV should be implemented in the Comeragh district in order to identify culprits.

A local councillor has renewed calls this week for action to address illegal dumping in rural Waterford.

Cllr Liam Brazil said that CCTV should be implemented in the Comeragh district in order to identify culprits.

Cllr Brazil said: “I believe that the rubbish is totally out of hand and we will see that on Monday after the Comeragh Clean-up.

“I went for a few walks lately and there was nothing but rubbish dumped on the side of the road.”

The Fine Gael councillor has queried whether the Comeragh municipal district could be considered for a CCTV pilot programme.

“These people have to be caught and the only way they will be caught is on CCTV,” he said.

“Every month rubbish is coming up in our meetings and I’m reporting it the whole time.

"The rubbish is being picked up, then it’s being dumped again in the same place. We can’t keep doing this.

“It’s a pity our beautiful, lovely countryside is being damaged with rubbish and bags being dumped.

"We have to do something, we can't just let this happen. I do believe the Comeragh district is totally and utterly out of hand.”
