Revenue seize €688,200 worth of contraband in counties including Waterford

Revenue has seized alcohol and cigarettes in operations in counties, including Waterford.
Revenue says 25,180 cigarettes valued at €22,700 and nearly 20,000 litres of alcohol products were seized in operations in the Midlands, Kilkenny, Waterford and Rosslare.
The cigarettes represented a potential loss to the Exchequer of €18,000.
The alcohol products seized represented a potential loss of €37,500.
Three weapons were also seized in the Midlands.
Those seizures were just some of the €688,200 worth of contraband seized by Revenue last week.
Various intelligence-led operations were carried out in Dublin, the Midlands, Kilkenny, Waterford and at Rosslare Europort.
Other items seized were:
- 17.79kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of almost €356,000
- 3.8kg of butane honey oil with an estimated value of €76,000,
- Over 440g of MDMA over €26,500, various other illicit drugs with an estimated value of over €10,000
- 467 counterfeit items with an estimated value of over €117,000.
The herbal cannabis was discovered, with the assistance of detector dogs Enzo and Ciara, whilst Revenue officers were examining parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands.
The parcels originated from the USA, Belgium, Spain and Canada and were destined for addresses nationwide.
The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.
Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.
