Members of the public in one area of Waterford are being encouraged to report incidents of anti-social behaviour when they see it.

The Ferrybank Community Development Residents Group (FCDRG)is working with local Gardaí and the Crime Prevention Officer to address concerns around the issue.

One of those involved said a key issue is underreporting.

"If incidents aren’t reported, they don’t appear in crime stats, impacting Garda resource allocation," he said.

It's something the Gardaí themselves have commented on in the past because it's only by liaising with the Gardaí and reporting incidents that they can be acted upon and investigated.

Highlighting that  anti-social behaviour affects the safety and atmosphere of the Ferrybank community, especially during school holidays, the residents' group is encouraging people to make reports: "Please report any anti-social behaviour or intimidation."

Waterford Gardaí can be contacted on 051 305300 or alternatively contact 999 or 112 in the case of an emergency.

The FCDRG is also collaborating with the Waterford Community Safety Partnership on long-term solutions.
