A motion introduced to the Council Chamber last week by Mayor of Waterford City and County, Cllr Jason Murphy, proposed that a piece of public art be included within the North Quays development.

The motion requested that the developer of the North Quays project include a significant piece of public art commemorating the history of dock workers in a prominent location at the site.

Mayor Murphy added, “We have the oldest port in Ireland with over 1,000 years of port activity and I think it's pertinent that is commemorated with a piece of significant public art in a prominent area."

The motion which was seconded by Cllr Eamon Quinlan, received unanimous support from every councillor present at last week’s Plenary meeting in City Hall.
