The Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the accident.

The Gardaí are investigating a road traffic accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian in Waterford.

The accident occurred on the R448 in Sallypark, Waterford, on Sunday morning, November 23.

In an appeal for witnesses a spokesperson for the force said Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene after a car struck the pedestrian shortly before 2.10am.

The male pedestrian, aged in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Coroner was notified and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The driver of the car, a male in his 20s, was uninjured.

The road remains closed, on the R448 from Rice’s Bridge to the New Rath Road roundabout, and local diversions are in place.

The road is preserved for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct an examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and who were travelling on the R448 between 1.30am and 2.15am are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
