Obituary: Tributes paid to Eileen Hanrahan (née Power) from Clonard Park, Waterford city

The late Eileen Hanrahan (nee Power), may she rest in peace.

Eileen Hanrahan (née Power) of Clonard Park, Ballybeg, passed away on Friday, April 10 aged 83.

For those who knew Eileen best, she was a woman who derived great pleasure from the simple things in life.

Her daughter Rebecca recalled how she loved a good cup of tea and passing the hours in Pipers Café in Tramore.

The trip to town often functioned as her daily pilgrimage, where she looked forward to having her cup of tea and “the chats”.

“She took pleasure like playing cards, doing her colouring book,” Rebecca said.

“That's really all she loved doing was playing cards, colouring, singing. Loved making up her own songs about the family, just making up rhymes about myself, or my brother, or her aunt, her sister and all that kind of stuff.

“She always had the chats and always singing, and the odd bit of dancing before she got very sick.

“She'd run around after my kids with me…and just run around rides after them when she was able to bring them to the park and bring them to the beach and stuff like that as well.”

Eileen was predeceased by her husband Martin and daughter Helen.

She will be sorely missed by her loving sons, Paul and Martin, daughters Catherine and Rebecca, daughter-in-law Ann-Marie, son-in-law Frank, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother Stephen, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Mourners paid tribute to Eileen as a down-to-earth woman who greatly enjoyed human connection.

“I remember Eileen as a cleaner in WRTC/WIT, who always had time for a chat and took great pride in her work, may Eileen rest in peace,” said one comment on Eileen’s RIP.ie page.

“I will miss you more than anything in this world, my heart is broken,” said Eileen’s granddaughter Donna.

“You fought so hard until the very end and I still can't believe that you are truly gone, please give mammy and grandad a big hug and kiss for me.”

Eileen’s Requiem Mass was held in St. Saviour's Church, Ballybeg, on Tuesday, April 14, at 1pm followed by burial in St. Otteran’s Cemetery, Ballinaneeshagh, Cork Road, Waterford.

May she rest in peace.
