Four of the 193 garda members who are attesting from Templemore today will be assigned to Waterford.

Two of the new members will be assigned to Waterford city, one in Tramore, and one in Dungarvan.

In total, 23 new gardaí have been assigned to Waterford in the past eight months.

Speaking on the recruitment, Minister Mary Butler said, “I am really pleased to announce that the Garda force in Waterford is going to be further reinforced by four new recruits who have just graduated from Templemore.

"I want to welcome them to Waterford and wish them well as they engage with local communities and become an active and visible presence throughout the county."

Minister Butler continued: “These new Gardaí will take up positions in communities across the country and many of them will play an important role in high visibility policing. The high-visibility foot patrols are having an impact and making our communities safer.

“A safe and secure atmosphere in Waterford’s villages, towns and City is a huge priority of mine. By strengthening the numbers of An Garda Síochána in Waterford in recent months, we are striving for safer communities and increased Garda visibility across the county.”
